ABOUT THE GAMEBetrayal at House on the Hill is a tile game by Wizards of the Coast that allows players to build their own haunted house room by room, tile by tile, creating a new thrilling game board every time. The game is designed for three to six people, each of whom plays one of six possible characters. Yes, there's a learning curve (this is a bit more involved than classic board games like Clue, after all). But if you stick with it, you won't be able to put it down. Having a collection of 50 missions to work through means you'll rarely see the same thing twice, especially because they're selected at random based on the items you've found and the rooms you've discovered. Even if you did, it wouldn't matter too much; each scenario relies on a head-to-head battle of wits rather than a one-and-done twist.
Rules for Betrayal at House on the Hill
The same goes for items and Omens - they're largely unfamiliar. And that's coming from someone who's played 2nd edition to death. While it's true that a chunk of this time will be spent sifting through the game's many tokens (there are definitely too many, a good proportion of which you won't ever use), everything else is engrossing. Unexpected treasures that can boost your stats or turn the tide. The joy of exploring, even if it'll inevitably go wrong. There's a tremendous amount of fun to be had here, and few board games for adults can match it.

Betrayal at House on the Hill third edition launches in 2022 with new scenarios and scares
She produced an emotional song with a well-thought-out lyric that gets stuck in your head. This song mentions how people sometimes gain too much trust and step closer to an unintended betrayal in relationships. You can’t talk about betrayal songs without mentioning the phenomenal Adele. Perhaps her most well-known song, Rolling in the Deep is everything a betrayal song should be incredibly raw, at times heartfelt, and full of attitude.
Should you buy Betrayal at House on the Hill 3rd edition?
Set aside the Traitor's Tome and Secrets of Survival haunt books. Horrific monsters and spectral presences lurk in manors, crypts, schools, monasteries, and derelict buildings near Arkham, Massachusetts. Some spin dark conspiracies while others wait for hapless victims to devour or drive insane. It’s up to a handful of brave investigators to explore these cursed places and uncover the truth about the living nightmares within.
The first thing fans of Betrayal at House on the Hill may notice is the updated art from the previous edition. Our team went all out to revise the look and feel of the game, and to make sure horror was at the heart of every design. From the blood-stained Secrets of Survival booklet to sumptuously designed room tiles, there are multiple details intended to chill you to the core. Secretly, one of the characters betrays the rest of the party, and the innocent members of the party must defeat the traitor in their midst before it’s too late! Betrayal at House on the Hill will appeal to any game player who enjoys a fun, suspenseful, and strategic game.
Players take turns clockwise following the first explorer. The traitor system keeps you on the edge of your seat, too. You'll never know what your opponents are trying to do, so most scenarios become a gripping tug of war as both sides try to outsmart each other.

For example, the verses are written in 12/8, but the chorus is in 11/8 time. The song had a significant impact on singer-songwriting Joni Mitchell. It was like a revelation to me” she’s on record as saying.
The number of rooms a player can move into and through is determined by their character’s speed trait. For example, if a character has a speed of three they can move through three adjacent rooms. Take the omen cards, shuffle them into a deck and place them face down somewhere where all players can reach them. Do the same for both the item cards and the event cards.
You may use it once immediately and once on each of your turns, unless it says otherwise. An explorer can move through a door if it connects to another door in an adjacent room. You can't leave the house or use the front door unless a haunt says otherwise. (Outside rooms like the Patio are still part of the house). Mix all of the rest of the room tiles together and put them facedown in a stack.
A sample of Led Zeppelin’s ‘When The Levee Breaks’ – a song we included in our list of songs about water – is included in this song. In this funky mother of a song, Withers gets walked all over. His friends feel “it’s their appointed duty” to tell him to stop. Alanis Morissette’s fiery, angry message from the point of view of a scorned ex-girlfriend (directed at her former lover) is one of the best songs about betrayal, period.

A set of various requirements decides which of the numbered haunt scenarios you’ll experience during a playthrough. However, until the haunt happens, you’ll all be walking around the mansion experiencing various spooky goings-on and gathering - sometimes - useful items. All players then find their matching character miniatures and place them on the entrance hall space. Character miniatures can be easily identified by checking the colour in the background of the character’s portrait on their character card. Don't tell the traitor what your goals are, unless you're sure the traitor already knows them or you're doing something as part of the haunt.
If you die and you have a companion (the Dog, the Girl, or the Madman), its token stays in the room where you died. If another explorer enters the room, he or she gains custody of that companion (and takes that omen card). When you die, any other items you have drop to the floor. Put an Item Pile token there and set aside those item or omen cards. Sometimes a card or a haunt lets you make an attack with a trait other than Might.
In fact, the manual explicitly states that making a group decision based on what's fun is more important than being a stickler for the rules. It doesn't always get things right in terms of balance, either. But it's smart, engaging, and exciting in every other way that matters.
Many of the classic Betrayal mechanics remain, including discovering rooms, traitors, items, and more. This may be a great choice if you have a recurring game night or consistent game group that you play with. It’s great fun and always nerve-wracking when the haunt starts to find out who the traitor will turn out to be.
Aside from the song title itself, there are several mentions of betrayal and other similar strong emotions. Many fans vehemently reject the idea it’s a guy, but there is no definitive saying one way or the other in the song (no mention of ‘he’ or ‘she’). As many fans believe, it could be a song about friendship (a platonic but intense relationship) between two guys that has faded.
Thereafter, any explorer entering the room can either ignore the room ability or use it intentionally, in which case that explorer still takes the damage. Falling to the basement doesn't count as moving a space. Only the first explorer to fall to the basement from the Collaped Room draws and places a basement tile. Put the Below Collapsed Room token on the room where the first person landed.
